Every climb tells a story.
Follow the changing elevation as you walk, keep your effort in view, and return to the full route when the day is done.
Hiking recording requires Premium on iPhone or Apple Watch. Live Watch elevation and detailed hike review are included.

01 / Along the trail
Keep the climb in perspective.
Distance is only part of a hike. RunZone brings elevation and effort into view while you move, with setup that can account for what you carry.
- See the ups and downs. On Apple Watch, follow current altitude, ascent, descent, and your live elevation profile.
- Include your pack. Set Carried Load in Hiking setup so pack weight contributes to your training context.
- Choose your recording device. Record with iPhone or Apple Watch, and choose the goals and Guidance that suit your hike.
- Keep recording offline. With Premium, Apple Watch can record without a network connection using GPS, heart rate, altitude, and voice guidance. Set up permissions and Premium access before heading out; maps, weather, and connected-device controls still depend on connectivity.
02 / Back from the trail
Revisit more than the distance.
Bring the route and the climbing together in one review. See where you went and the elevation changes that made the day your own.
- Trace the day. Open your recorded GPS route and explore the map after the hike.
- Put the climbing in context. Review the lowest and highest elevation, total ascent and descent, and elevation details.
- Keep your days outdoors. Use History filters to find earlier hikes, with your full readable workout list included in Premium.
- Share the day or export the route. Share Workout Image creates a summary to save or send. Smoothed GPX gives you a cleaned-up track; Original GPX uses the valid route points stored in Apple Health. GPX export needs recorded GPS route data.
Free includes workout-type and date filters, image sharing, and both GPX options for readable workouts. Free keeps the three newest eligible workouts readable; recording a new hike requires Premium.
